April Update

APRIL 3 – 7, 2023
THEME: AMAZING SCIENCE
This week our classroom will be busy with scientific activity! At circle time a variety of simple experiments will be conducted and during free choice time we will have a follow-up activity to enhance the learning experience. We plan to experiment with water, bubbles, magnets and of course, volcanos!
The letter of the week is V is for volcano.

APRIL 10 – 14, 2023
WE LOVE PETS
You may hear us singing, How Much is That Doggie in the Window? as we learn about some of our favorite pets this week. The dramatic play center will be set up as a Veterinarian’s office as a fun way to learn about pets and their care.

The letter of the week is W is for worm.

  • Lunch Bunch will not be held on Friday, April 14th.
    All students will be dismissed at noon.
  • April 17 – 21 is school vacation week. Enjoy the week!
  • PPP will be holding a summer program July 10th – 13th and July 17th – 20th.
    Each session meets Monday – Thursday from 9:00-1:00. The cost is $180 per session. More information will come home after April vacation week.

March Updates

Theme: Art Appreciation
March 13 – 17, 2023

During our focus on art this week we will explore a variety of artists, their tools, supplies, and where works of art can be seen. We’ll then create some masterpieces of our own! Our featured artist is author/illustrator Peter Reynolds. We will enjoy reading his books, The Dot, and Ish, for inspiration. Each child will create their own Dot picture for the Art Show.

*Be sure to wear green on Friday, 3/17, for some St Patrick’s Day fun!

March 20 – 24, 2023
Theme: A Sign of Spring

This is a sharing week! The children are asked to bring in something seen in Spring on their scheduled sharing day.

March 27 – 31, 2023
Theme: Backyard Birds

This week we will explore our feathered friends! Each day we will look at different types of birds and learn about their unique body parts, the foods they eat and their different types of homes.

WEEKLY UPDATE: February 27th – March 3rd and March 6th – 10th

THEME: AUTHORS and SEUSS ON THE LOOSE

The focus of our learning experiences for these two weeks will be on our favorite authors and illustrators. Each day we will read a selection of books and the classroom centers will involve activities related to these books. Authors will include Eric Carle, Bill Martin, Jr., Mo Willems, Peter Reynolds, David Shannon and
Dr. Seuss.

The letter of the week activities are Q is for quail and R is for read.

REMINDERS, REQUESTS AND OTHER INFO:

  • Thursday, March 2nd, is recognized as National Read Across America Day in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. The children may wear silly socks to school on Thursday and Friday as we will be reading The Foot Book and Fox in Socks along with other Dr. Seuss books.
  • Children’s medical forms are current for one year from the date of the physical exam. If your child has had a recent physical please send in a copy of the current physical form to be kept on file. Thank you.

WEEKLY UPDATE: JANUARY 30 – FEBRUARY 3, 2023

THEME: REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE

This week we will learn the three Rs of recycling: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. By participating in the classroom learning experiences the children will learn ways to recycle, classify recycled items, create art projects with a variety of recyclable materials and discover the importance of caring for the environment.

-Also, each child will decorate a Valentine bag to receive Valentines cards from classmates.

*Valentine cards may be sent into school anytime this week and next. The children will take their bags home on February 13th and 14th. If you choose to send in Valentine cards, please send enough for your child’s entire group.

*There are 18 Yellow Apples and 19 Red Apples.

*Children may sign their names inside the cards, but please leave the outside envelope blank for ease of distributing the cards.

REMINDERS, REQUESTS, AND OTHER INFO:

*Congratulations to the Corr family (Red Apple Liam) on the birth of new baby, Owen, on January 19th!

*We enjoy playing in the snow on the playground! Please send your child dressed for winter fun each day.

*Be sure to check the spare clothes in your child’s backpack so they have everything they need…just in case.

*Enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year is underway! We had a successful Open House last weekend and registration forms will be accepted until we are at full enrollment. The next Open House will be on the Saturday morning of the art show, 4/1, prior to the start of the show. Tell your friends!

*Thanks for sending in the recycling items, we are now all set for the week!
