WEEKLY UPDATES: MARCH 26 – 30, 2018 and APRIL 2 – 6, 2018

THEME: SPRINGTIME / WEATHER

During these two weeks we will explore the season of Spring. Hopefully the snow will have melted and we’ll have warmer weather and it will feel like spring is in the air! The activities will include observing signs of spring outdoors, reading books about spring and weather in springtime. Music and movement time will have us “shadow dancing” and “freeze dancing” and using scarves and streamers as we move like the wind!

The letter of the week activity is W is for weather.

REMINDERS, REQUESTS AND OTHER INFO:

*There is no school on 3/30 for Good Friday.

*Lunch Bunch will not be held on Friday, April 6th.

The Art Show is Saturday, April 7th. Baked goods can be dropped off on Friday

or on Saturday morning by 10:15. Please no peanut products.

*Progress reports are coming home this week. These do not need to be signed

or returned. Please contact your child’s teacher with any questions.

*There is a signup sheet for Tasty Tuesday on April 10th.

* PPP will hold a ½ day summer program in July;

July 9th – 12th (cooking and crafts) and July 16th – 19th (Western theme). There is the possibility of a third week July 23rd – 26th (nature week) if there is enough interest. The program is held Monday – Thursday each week and runs from 9:00-12:30. Children bring their own lunch and snack is provided.

The cost is $120 per week per child. There is a 10% discount for one child when siblings attend. There will be a sign up sheet for those who may be interested.

The program requires 12 students each week to be held. Registration forms will come home at the end of April.

WEEKLY UPDATE: MARCH 19 -23, 2018

THEME: EATING UP THE BOOK

The focus of our learning experiences this week will be on our favorite authors and illustrators. Each day at circle time we will read a book with a food theme by a selected author and the classroom centers will involve these books/authors also. The book selection includes:

*MARK YOUR CALENDARS: the Art Show will be held on Saturday April 7th from 10:30-12:00. A bake sale and a book raffle will be held also. See attached.

*The April snack calendar is coming home today. There will be one more snack

calendar for May/June.

*Children’s medical forms are current for one year from the date of the

physical exam. If your child has had a recent physical please send in a copy

of the current physical form to be kept on file. Thank you.

WEEKLY UPDATE: MARCH 5th – 9th and 12th – 16th, 2018

THEME: THE ART STUDIO

Art is an expressive and aesthetic activity that can be enjoyed throughout life;

it is also a theme that children especially enjoy. During our focus on art for these two weeks the children will explore a variety of artists, their tools and supplies. They will also learn where works of art can be found. Each day we will create a work of art inspired by an artist and many of our masterpieces will be on display at the Art Show in April.

(Please note this theme will be for two weeks and replaces the rainforest theme.)

The letter of the week activities are T is for tiger and U is for unicorn.

* The Art Show will be held on Saturday, April 7th from 10:30-12:00. More

information will come home as the date nears.

*The NSMT is mailing the show tickets to PPP. I will send them home as soon

as they arrive so everyone has their tickets prior to the performance.

*Be sure to wear green on Friday, March 16th for some St. Patrick’s Day fun!

WEEKLY UPDATE: FEBRUARY 26 – MARCH 1, 2018

THEME: WE LIKE PETS

You may hear us singing- “How Much is that Doggie in the Window?” as we learn about pets this week in school. During the week the children will discover the kinds of animals typically kept as pets and the care and feeding of pets and the occupations of people who work with pets. Some of the learning experiences your child may participate in are:

-graphing our favorite pets

-playing an animal soundtracks lotto game

-creating animal puppets & fish bowl art

-measuring our heights with dog bones

-visiting the animal clinic set up in the dramatic play area

The letter of the week activity is S is for snake.

REMINDERS, REQUESTS AND OTHER INFO:

*This is a sharing week. On your child’s regular sharing day they may bring in their

favorite stuffed friend for a checkup at the animal clinic set up in dramatic play.

*The Yellow Apple Group has begun home visits with the class book buddy. Knufflebunny and two books by Mo Willems will go home with each child in the yellow apple group and the children are asked to write about their experience in the class journal. All are anxiously awaiting their turn!

*We are currently accepting registration forms for the new school year. There

are openings for both red and yellow apple groups. If you know of anyone looking for preschool they may call or email to schedule a visit.

*We plan to be on the playground for 30 minutes each morning. We’re still thawing out from this cold winter so boots, hats, mittens (snow pants are ok too!) should be worn to enjoy playground fun!

WEEKLY UPDATE: FEBRUARY 12 – 16, 2018

This week the activities in our classroom will focus on Valentine’s Day, friendship and the Post Office. Circle time activities will include reading books and discussing the importance of sharing, giving, loving and friendship. We will deliver Valentine cards to our friends’ mailbags and explore the Post Office set up in the dramatic play area. Other activities planned for the week include:

-playing musical hearts and other Valentine games
-playing musical hearts and other Valentine games
-sponge painting hearts
-making a Valentine card for our families
-letter R is for roses and
-learning Valentine songs and poems at music time. One the children love to
recite is: “I love you, I love you, I love you divine,
Please give me your bubblegum, you’re sitting on mine!”

REMINDERS, REQUESTS AND OTHER INFO:

*The ticket money for Madagascar is due by Friday February 16th. There are 4 extra tickets if anyone else would like to attend, please let me know!

*The dramatic play area will be set up as a Post Office this week. Any donations
of stickers, paper and envelopes would be appreciated. Thank you.

*At circle time this week the Yellow Apples will begin to learn their addresses and to recognize their address in print.

*Children are asked to bring in Valentine cards Monday 2/12, Tuesday 2/13 and Wednesday 2/14. To make distributing the cards easier please have your child
sign the cards, but do not address it to anyone on the outside. Also send in enough cards for your child’s entire group. There are 25 Yellow Apples and 15 Red Apples.

*There is a signup sheet for the pizza lunch on Wednesday, February 14th.

*Please call or send an email when your child is going to be absent from school.

Weekly update: JANUARY 29 – FEBRUARY 2, 2018

THEME: OUR TOWN/OUR WORLD

This theme will take the children on a journey around the world. Each country or continent has something different to share. We plan to explore the music, languages and crafts from a variety of countries.
The letter of the week is P is for penguin.

*Show your team spirit on Friday 2/2 and wear your favorite sports team apparel!

FEBRUARY 5TH – FEBRUARY 9TH, 2018

The winter games in PyeongChang will be the focus of our learning experiences
this week. We will pretend to be Olympians as we walk on a balance beam, skate to music and climb through an obstacle course. We’ll conduct a fireworks- in- a- jar experiment at circle time and paint colorful Olympic rings and medals!
Also this week each child will decorate a Valentine bag in order to receive Valentine cards from their classmates next week.
The letter of the week activity is Q is for quarter.

REMINDERS, REQUESTS AND OTHER INFO:
*The February snack calendar is attached.
*The book order is due by Friday 2/9.
*There is a signup sheet for a pizza lunch on Wednesday, February 14th.
*The children may bring in Valentines cards to deliver to their classmates’
bags on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 2/12-2/14. Be sure to send in enough cards for your child’s entire group. There are 15 red apples and 25 yellow apples. Please leave the outside envelope blank for ease of delivery for the children and only sign the inside of the card.

*We have seats reserved for the NSMT performance of Madagascar on SaturdayMarch 31st for the 10 AM performance. The tickets are $12 per person and the ticket money is due by Friday, February 16th. There are a few extra seats reserved if you didn’t sign up and would like to join the group or if you have any family/friends who might like to come as well. Just let me know!

WEEK OF: JANUARY 15 – 19, 2018
THEME: FLY ME TO THE MOON

10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1….Blast off! Your children will blast off into space as we explore this outer space theme. We’ll learn about the stars and constellations, the names of the planets and some interesting information about the moon and the sun. We plan to paint with moon paint, explore moon rocks and moon sand in the sensory table, and create a rocket ship for the classroom. We’ll dress up as astronauts in the dramatic play center and learn this song at music time:
Zoom, zoom, zoom. I’m going to the moon.
Would you like to take a trip? Climb aboard my rocket ship.
(crouch down while saying) 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1
(jump up on) Blast off!

WEEK OF: JANUARY 22 – 26, 2018
THEME: SPACE

Our exploration of space continues…
This is a sharing week. The children are asked to bring in a space related
item on their scheduled sharing day.
The letter of the week is O is for outer space.

*Registration for the 2018-2019 school year is ongoing. PPP families are
encouraged to return the forms by January 26th to receive your first choice

WEEKLY UPDATES: December 1 – 15 and 18 – 20, 2017

THEME: CELEBRATING THE SEASON

During this theme the learning experiences in the classroom will focus on the symbols, customs and sounds of Christmas. At circle time we will embrace the holiday season by reading holiday books and playing group games. At center time we will create many decorations for home and school and all of the children will be busy making a fun holiday gift for their families!

Music time will find us singing Jingle Bells, Rudolph, Must Be Santa and other popular songs of the season. We will sing these at the party and hope you will all join in and sing along!

The letter of the week activity is L is for lights.

*December 11-15 is a sharing week. The children are asked to bring in a holiday treasure on their scheduled sharing day.

*The January snack calendar is available to sign.
*Please check the spare clothes in your child’s backpack to be sure they include
socks and warmer clothes for winter.
*The holiday party will be held on Thursday 12/21 at 9:30.
The notice about this has been sent home in your child’s backpack.
*An additional lunch bunch will be offered on Tuesday 12/19. This is a regular
Lunch bunch and children should bring their own lunch.

WEEKLY UPDATE: NOVEMBER 27 – DECEMBER 1, 2017 & DECEMBER 4 – 8, 2017

Language concepts such as rhyming words and opposites are part of the curriculum throughout the school year. This week there will be a more concentrated focus on these important pre-reading skills. To help reinforce this, each day we will read a selection of some of our favorite books and nursery rhymes and then follow up with a variety of activities at the learning centers. Some of the learning experiences for the week include:

-creating a hard/soft collage, painting with black and white paint and conducting a Humpty Dumpty experiment @ circle time.

At music time we’ll play Doggie, Doggie, Where’s Your Bone? and we’ll sing Laurie Berkner’s Nursery Rhyme medley!
The letter of the week activity is J is for jingle bells.

WEEK OF DECEMBER 4 – 8, 2017THEME: UNDERGROUND ANIMALS

This week we will explore the habitats and characteristics of underground animals.
Through books and discussions we will learn about mice, moles, rabbits and more!

We plan to crawl through a tunnel, use flashlights to search the classroom for animals and create rabbit puppets and hedgehog paintings.

The letter of the week activity is K is for keys.

WEEKS: NOVEMBER 13 – 17 AND NOVEMBER 20 -22, 2017

THEME: OUR FAMILIES / GIVING THANKS

“Some families are large, some families are small,
but I love my family best of all!”

Families and Thanksgiving will be the focus of our activities for these two weeks. At circle time we will read the story of the first Thanksgiving, discuss our own family Thanksgiving celebrations, our favorite Thanksgiving foods and what we are thankful for. Other activities planned include painting with watercolors, creating a thankful wreath and a writing activity about our families. The letter of the week activity is I is for insect. At music time we will dance the turkey-pokey, sing On Thanksgiving Day by Laurie Berkner and this turkey song:

I’M A LITTLE TURKEY (tune of I’m a Little Teapot)
I’m a little turkey fluffy and brown.
My wings flip flop when I turn around.
I have a lot of feathers on my back,
And a big orange beak that goes click-clack.

**11/13 -11/17 is a sharing week. We are asking each child to bring in a family photo on their scheduled sharing day. You may send in a picture of just one or two individual relatives or a group picture; any family photo your child selects will be fine. We plan to pin the photos onto a classroom bulletin board for
several weeks. The Yellow Apple photos will be kept for each child’s end-of-the-year portfolio book.

*Parent-teacher conferences will be held in December. Miss Ilene’s conferences (Red Apples) will be held on Monday 12/4 and Tuesday 12/5. Miss Bridget’s conferences (Yellow Apples) will be held on Friday 12/8 and Monday 12/11 and Tuesday 12/12. Please see the conference signup sheets posted on the fence to schedule a conference appointment. If you cannot access these sheets you may call or email for an appointment time.

*The December snack calendar is available to sign.

*Please let me know asap if you plan to attend the performance of Madagascar
at NSMT on 3/31. We need to reserve a block of tickets soon!

*We plan to be on the playground for 20 – 30 minutes each morning. Please dress your child for the weather and be sure all outerwear is labeled. When wearing boots, put shoes in the back pack to change into once we’re inside.

*As the cold weather approaches we must prepare for inclement weather. PPP is closed if the Pentucket School District is closed. When a delayed opening is announced, PPP will hold school from 10:45-12:30. No lunch bunch will be held.
