Theme: Dinosaur Dig
Weeks: January 16 – 20 and January 23 – 27, 2023

During these two weeks we will explore the exciting world of dinosaurs…always a favorite topic in preschool! During group activities we will discover the meaning of the words extinct, fossil, prehistoric and paleontologist. The children will gain information about many different types of dinosaurs by participating in the following:

-making fossils in clay and completing dinosaur puzzles,
-conducting a volcano experiment at circle time,
-moving like dinosaurs as we sing Laurie Berkner’s- We are the Dinosaurs and
-creating a variety of dinosaurs which will be on display at the Art Showon April 1st.

The letter activities are N is for newspaper and O is for owl.

REMINDERS, REQUESTS AND OTHER INFO:

*January 23 – 27th is a sharing week. The children are asked to bring in an item related to the dinosaur theme on their scheduled sharing day.

*Congratulations to the LaRocco family (Yellow Apple Brandt) on the birth of baby, Charlotte Jane, on January 6th!

* Looking ahead…we are collecting recyclable materials for the upcoming recycling theme. Please send in any tissue boxes, small soap boxes, oatmeal containers, cereal boxes, egg cartons and plastic caps for our art projects.

Weekly Update January 3rd – 6th and January 9th – 13th, 2023

Theme: Winter

Welcome back and best wishes for a happy, healthy 2023!

We have many fun learning experiences planned for our exploration of winter.

Circle time activities will include reading books about snow, winter, and arctic animals. We’ll play winter charades and do experiments with ice and gummy bears!

In the dramatic play area, we’ll use our imaginations to go ice skating and ice fishing.Music time will find us moving like snowflakes, dancing the freeze dance, and singing winter songs.

The letter of the week activity is M is for mitten.

REMINDERS, REQUESTS AND OTHER INFO:

·The January snack calendar has been sent home. The February snack calendar will be available to sign this week.
Registration forms for the 2023-2024 school year will be sent home in early January.
Snow pants can be worn on the playground for snowy fun, and we’ll send them home at the end of the day. Please label all outerwear.
When wearing snow boots, please send slippers or shoes in the backpack to change into once we’re inside.

Lunch Bunch will not be held on Friday, January 13th.

WEEKLY UPDATES: December Update

DECEMBER UPDATE

December 5th – 9th, December 12th – 16th, December 19th and 20th, 2022
THEME: HOLIDAY TIME

Holiday excitement is in the air and in the classroom as we explore this festive season! We plan to read books about the winter holidays, play group games and create fun holiday crafts. Music time will find us singing many popular songs of the season and all of the children will be busy working on a special gift for their families!

The letter of the week activities are K is for kitten and L is for lights.

December 12 – 16 is a SHARING WEEK. The children may bring in a musical item on their scheduled sharing day.

* Monday (12/19) and Tuesday (12/20) will be especially festive days at PPP!
The classroom will become the Polar Express and all will get a ticket to take an imaginary ride with their classmates. The children are welcome to wear their pajamas to school for the Polar Express.

Please note-
All of the children’s holiday creations will be sent home on Monday 12/19 and Tuesday 12/20.

WEEKLY UPDATE: November 28 – December 2, 2022

Theme: Rhyme Time
Week of: November 28 – December 2, 2022

We present rhyming concepts throughout the school year as part of our language curriculum. This week a more concentrated focus will be offered to help develop this important pre-reading skill. At circle time we will play rhyming games and read a selection of popular rhyming books and nursery rhymes. A variety of rhyming activities will follow at the learning centers.

Highlights of the week’s activities include:

using the felt board figures to recite nursery rhymes,
cutting out twinkle, twinkle stars
painting five little monkeys
singing Down By the Bay by Raffi and Laurie Berkner’s Nursery Rhyme medley at music time.çThe letter of the week activity is J is for jellyfish.Reminders, Requests, and other info:
In the event of school cancellation or a delayed opening due to inclement weather our policy is as follows: when the Pentucket School District announces that school is canceled for the district, PPP will also be closed for the day. If a delayed opening is announced, PPP will open at 10:45 and dismiss at 12:30. Lunch Bunch will not be held on delayed opening days.
Student progress reports will be sent home in December. These do not need to be signed or returned. a sign-up sheet will be posted in January for those who would like to schedule a phone conference with their child’s teacher.
